Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Diagnosed with flexor strain
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 5:54 PM
Padres manager Craig Stammen told reporters Wednesday that Pivetta was diagnosed with a right flexor strain, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Per Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Sports Association, Stammen believes that Pivetta is looking at "weeks, maybe months" of rehab and rest. That kind of timeline indicates that Pivetta will be out of action until the summer, potentially through the All-Star break in mid-July. Matt Waldron (lower body) is slated to take Pivetta's spot in the rotation later this week once the former is activated from the 15-day IL.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Sitting again Wednesday
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 4:22 PM
Andujar is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Mariners on Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andujar will ride the bench for a third consecutive game despite posting a .967 OPS with one steal, three doubles and four runs scored across eight games since April 3. Gavin Sheets will serve as the Padres' designated hitter while Ty France starts at first base.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Not in Wednesday's lineup
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 4:20 PM
Tatis is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Mariners on Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Tatis is getting a rest day Wednesday, as the Padres are rolling with Nick Castellanos, Jackson Merrill and Ramon Laureano in the outfield from right to left. Tatis has reached base safely in nine of his last 10 games, and over that span he has gone 11-for-41 (.268) with two steals, five runs scored and five RBI.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Timeline for return uncertain
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 9:05 AM
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Tuesday that Pivetta underwent an MRI on his elbow, but the Padres are still awaiting the results before a timeline for the right-hander's return is established, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Pivetta exited his most recent start Sunday against the Rockies due to an injury the Padres initially labeled as right elbow stiffness. Upon placing Pivetta on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, the team classified his injury as inflammation, but the severity of the issue won't known until the MRI results are in. Matt Waldron (lower body) is expected to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list later this week to take over Pivetta's spot in the rotation.
Alex Verdugo
Alex Verdugo Recovering from sore shoulder
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:56 AM
Verdugo has been rehabbing a sore throwing shoulder at the Padres' spring training complex in Arizona and is expected to report to Triple-A El Paso in a couple of weeks once fully healthy, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: The veteran outfielder signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on March 1, but the injury explains why he hasn't seen game action since the final week of the Cactus League. After posting a lowly .585 OPS over 213 plate appearances in the majors with Atlanta in 2025, Verdugo will likely need to find success over an extended period of time at El Paso before putting himself in consideration for a promotion to San Diego.
Joe Musgrove
Joe Musgrove Not yet cleared for mound work
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:50 AM
Musgrove (elbow) remains limited to playing catch during his throwing program and hasn't yet been cleared for bullpen sessions, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Musgrove entered spring training with no limitations after completing his recovery from October 2024 Tommy John surgery, but he pitched in just one exhibition game before experiencing renewed soreness in his surgically repaired elbow. Though the fact that Musgrove hasn't been shut down from throwing since suffering his setback can be taken as an encouraging sign, the veteran right-hander is progressing slowly and is without an official timeline to make his season debut. At the very least, Musgrove will remain on the shelf through the end of April, and he'll have several checkpoints to hit in the recovery process before a potential return date comes into focus.
Jeremiah Estrada
Jeremiah Estrada Resumes playing catch
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:44 AM
Estrada (elbow) resumed playing light catch earlier this week, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Estrada's velocity had been down through his first seven appearances of the season, but it wasn't until the right-hander felt tightness in his elbow while playing catch that the Padres decided to place him on the injured list last Friday. The Padres are labeling Estrada's injury as tendinitis, and the fact that he's already been cleared to start throwing again offers hope that he'll be in line for an abbreviated stay on the shelf. Despite the early drop in velocity, Estrada was able to strike out more than a batter per inning and netted four holds prior to landing on the shelf.
Griffin Canning
Griffin Canning Likely to need two more rehab starts
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:39 AM
Canning (Achilles) struck out four and allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks across 3.1 innings Friday while making his second rehab start at Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: Canning got stretched out to 62 pitches in Friday's outing, but he's still expected to make at least a couple more rehab starts prior to being activated from the 15-day injured list, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. The 29-year-old posted a 3.77 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 16 starts with the Mets in 2025 before undergoing season-ending surgery shortly before the All-Star break to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon. Once he's activated from the IL, Canning could be a candidate to fill a spot in a San Diego rotation that's currently missing two of its top options in Nick Pivetta (elbow) and Joe Musgrove (elbow).
Matt Waldron
Matt Waldron On track to join rotation
Wed, Apr 15, 2026, 8:33 AM
The Padres are expected to activate Waldron (lower body) from the 15-day injured list and have him make a start during this weekend's series versus the Angels in Anaheim, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis: After undergoing hemorrhoid surgery in late February, Waldron was eased along slowly in spring training and was placed on the injured list prior to Opening Day. He was cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment when Triple-A El Paso opened its season in late March, and he's looked sharp over the course of three starts with the affiliate, tossing 12 scoreless innings while allowing just seven hits and posting a 12:1 K:BB. Waldron has since rejoined the Padres and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, which likely puts him on track to start Friday's series opener. The right-hander will be joining the rotation as a replacement for Nick Pivetta (elbow) and should be in line for multiple turns with Pivetta facing an uncertain timeline for a return.
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill Racks up three hits in victory
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 11:27 PM
Merrill went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Seattle.
Analysis: Merrill notched one of the Padres' two extra-base hits in the game and recorded the team's only theft. The star outfielder seems to be turning things around after a slow start to the season, as he's batting .467 (7-for-15) with a home run, two doubles four RBI, six runs and two steals over his past four games. Prior to the surge, Merrill had hit just .184 across his first 13 contests of the campaign.
Mason Miller
Mason Miller Records fifth save
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 11:18 PM
Miller struck out one batter over a perfect inning to notch a save against the Mariners on Tuesday.
Analysis: It was a relatively stress-free save for Miller, who entered in the ninth inning with a three-run cushion. Regardless, the flamethrowing righty continued to dominate, retiring the side in order on 15 pitches. Miller is a perfect 5-for-5 in save chances on the campaign and has compiled 29.2 consecutive regular-season scoreless innings dating back to last year. He's been nearly impossible to make contact against this season, allowing just one base knock while posting a 20:1 K:BB through 8.1 frames.
Michael King
Michael King Notches victory with quality start
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 11:10 PM
King (2-1) earned the win over Seattle on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters over six innings.
Analysis: The only run King allowed came in the second inning. He didn't give up any extra-base hits and was able to overcome some mild wildness, as he threw a first-pitch strike to only 11 of the 25 batters he faced and notched just 49 strikes among his 85 total pitches. King has recorded a quality start and victory in each of his past two appearances, lowering his season ERA to 2.78 in the process. He's tentatively scheduled to next take the mound on the road against the Angels.
Nick Pivetta
Nick Pivetta Down with elbow inflammation
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 5:36 PM
The Padres placed Pivetta on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to April 13, due to right elbow inflammation.
Analysis: In a corresponding move Tuesday, the Padres recalled Alek Jacob from Triple-A El Paso. Pivetta suffered the injury in his start Sunday when he had to exit in the fourth inning due to right elbow stiffness. After additional testing, the right-hander will miss some extended time and is eligible to return at the end of April.
Alek Jacob
Alek Jacob Rejoins MLB bullpen
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 5:29 PM
The Padres recalled Jacob from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Analysis: In a corresponding move Tuesday, the Padres placed Nick Pivetta (elbow) on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 13. Jakob had begun the 2026 season with Triple-A El Paso, where he has notched a 0.00 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 7.1 innings across five appearances.
Miguel Andujar
Miguel Andujar Riding pine Tuesday
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 4:23 PM
Andujar isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus Seattle.
Analysis: Andujar owns a .967 OPS across 27 plate appearances since April 1, but he'll now retreat to the bench for a second consecutive game. His absence will put Gavin Sheets in the DH spot while Ty France starts at first base.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Idle Tuedsay
Tue, Apr 14, 2026, 4:20 PM
Fermin isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
Analysis: Fermin will get a chance to regroup Tuesday after slashing just .190/.308/.286 over 10 games since the beginning of April. While he sits, Luis Campusano will start behind the plate and bat eighth.
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill Goes deep in win
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 8:48 PM
Merrill went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and one stolen base in Sunday's 7-2 victory over the Rockies.
Analysis: Merrill put the finishing touch on the Padres' fifth-straight win, blasting a solo homer in the seventh inning to extend the lead to five. It's been a slow start for the center fielder, who is slashing .217/.288/.417 through 16 games to open the 2026 campaign, though he's driven in four runs over his past two games and will look to build on that as he works to hit his stride at the plate.
Ramon Laureano
Ramon Laureano Blasts another homer
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 8:40 PM
Laureano went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-2 win over Colorado.
Analysis: Laureano went deep for the second straight game, crushing a middle-middle cutter from Valente Bellozo over the left-field fence to extend San Diego's lead in the sixth inning. Amid a slow start for much of the Padres' lineup, Laureano has been highly productive, slashing .268/.339/.536 with four homers, 10 runs, 11 RBI and three stolen bases through 15 games.
Manny Machado
Manny Machado Tallies two RBI in win
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 8:31 PM
Machado went 1-for-1 with two RBI and two walks in Sunday's 7-2 win over Colorado.
Analysis: Machado opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning before later delivering an opposite-field single in the fifth frame for his second RBI of the day. After a slow start to the season, the star third baseman has been a run-producing force of late, recording two RBI in each of his past two games and driving in nine runs over his past seven contests.
Ty France
Ty France Trio of hits in win
Sun, Apr 12, 2026, 8:24 PM
France went 3-for-3 with a double, a solo home run, two additional runs scored and was hit by a pitch in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Rockies.
Analysis: France was a difference-maker, reaching base in all four plate appearances, highlighted by his first homer of the campaign in the fourth inning that left the bat at 107.4 mph and traveled 427 feet into the Padres' bullpen. The veteran entered Sunday's contest with just one hit through 12 plate appearances to open the season but is now slashing .286/.375/.571 after his big performance against the Rockies. In his second stint with San Diego, France has primarily been deployed as a platoon bat against left-handed pitching, though Sunday's performance came against right-handers after planned starter Kyle Freeland (shoulder) was a late scratch.
